Carter House on Mugga Way is a renovation project that demonstrates how modern design can complement and elevate heritage architecture. Situated in Red Hill, this home sits within a mid-century modern precinct, and the design approach was carefully tailored to honour its architectural context.

The renovation focused on the kitchen and dining areas, updating these spaces to meet the needs of modern living while maintaining a deep respect for the original character of the home. Rather than introducing contrast, the design took its inspiration from the home’s existing forms, materials, and design language.

Custom joinery was designed with mid-century principles in mind, featuring clean lines, functional layouts, and subtle curves. The material palette included warm timber finishes, soft fabric details, and earthy tones that tie the new work back to the era in which the house was originally built.

This was a highly sympathetic renovation that required thoughtful decision-making at every stage. The integration of new elements was handled with care to ensure that nothing felt out of place, and that the overall result remained cohesive and timeless.

Cater House now offers a refined and welcoming interior that feels both modern and authentic. It is a testament to the value of restraint and respect in design, showing how thoughtful updates can breathe new life into heritage homes without compromising their identity.
